On August 23, 2023, Ordinance 23-07 Establishing Rent Stabilization Regulations was adopted, and on September 21, 2023, it went into effect. The Ordinance is intended to establish permanent rent stabilization regulations within the City of Maywood.
A rental registry requires owners of units subject to the Rental Registry Program fee to report rent and tenancy data to the City of Maywood Rental Registry Program annually. Owners are required to register for the first time no later than February 1, 2024. Starting in 2025, owners must update or confirm their units’ tenancy data annually by January 31 of each subsequent year.
Yes. Per Chapter 8-21.12, Rental Unit Registration. No landlord shall demand or accept rent for a Covered Rental Unit without first registering the Covered Rental Unit and serving on the Tenant or displaying in a clearly visible location, proof of registration.

Exemptions:
- Dwelling units with a certificate of occupancy issued after February 1, 1995
- Dwelling units with the landlord’s or the landlord’s immediate family
- Rent for a Registered Covered Rental Unit in 2025 may be increased no more than 3.9% based upon the current CPI until April 2025.
- One Rent increase for a Covered Rental Unit may be imposed in any twelve (12) month period.
Owners may register their units by going to the online Rental Registry portal here.
Owners who do not register covered units by the January 31 deadline will not be able to file petitions for rent increases or impose rent increases, nor will they be able to file responses to tenants’ petitions.
